NC State-TU Berlin team wins third place in worldwide water network competition

Graduate students Jorge Pesantez, Mohammad Ali Khaksar Fassae, and Faisal Alghamadi, together with faculty Dr. Emily Berglund and Dr. Kumar Mahinthakumar recently participated in a worldwide competition called “BattLe of Leakage Detection and Isolation Methods: BattLeDIM 2020” (https://battledim.ucy.ac.cy/). NC State graduate students and faculty teamed up with researchers from TU Berlin, and the group collaborated to create a new computational model to find leaks in a water pipe network using measurements of pressure, flowrate, and demand. A total of 18 teams from industry and universities across the globe competed in BattLeDIM on September 3, 2020. Our NC State-TU Berlin team was awarded third place for the solution that they submitted, which accurately found 18 leaks in a water distribution system. Congratulations to our team!
